On days 1 and 2, working groups comprised of thematic experts / leads for each jurisdiction will:
- Define what it means to effectively manage at least 50% of marine resources (out to the edge of the EEZ) and 30% of terrestrial resources, including how both will be measured
- Determine a reasonable but ambitious target and metrics for the number of community members within each jurisdiction who are deriving livelihoods from effectively managed marine and terrestrial resources
- Determine a reasonable but ambitious target and metrics for reducing the risks from climate impacts for communities within flood zones and on low-lying islands
- Determine a reasonable but ambitious target and metrics for reducing invasive species and increasing restoration of habitats
- Identify regional and jurisdictional fisheries management approaches to integrate with MPAs and how to measure them
- Estimate costs for implementing interventions to achieve new components of the MC2030
On days 3 and 4, Heads of Delegations, donors and support partners will join the meeting to:
- Hear from the working groups on their recommended definitions, targets and metrics for the new components of the MC2030
- Discuss and prioritize innovative finance mechanisms identified in the updated RSFP to mobilize financial capital and secure additional funding for the MC Endowment to supplement annual revenue from complementary revenue streams.
