At the 26th Micronesian Islands Forum (MIF) in June 2024, the leaders of Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands endorsed several ambitious recommendations from the MC Steering Committee, including support for this regional meeting.
At this convening we will discuss and agree on definitions, approaches, specific targets, and related costs for the new components of the Micronesia Challenge 2030 (MC2030) endorsed at the 24ᵗʰ MIF, including effectively managing at least 50% of marine resources and 30% of terrestrial resources, increasing number of community members deriving livelihoods from sustainably managed resources, reducing the risks from climate impacts for communities within flood zones and on low-lying islands, reducing invasive species, restoring habitats, and integrating fisheries management with MPAs.Â
Additionally, we will work on an overall fundraising strategy to support the work required to achieve these expanded goals.
