After earning her degree in the Sustainability Solutions program at Arizona State University (ASU) Morgan Leon Guerrero was focused on energy transition and the benefits this could hold for Guam.  She became Guam’s first Navigating Home Fellow.

Leon Guerrero had the opportunity to work with the Guam Energy Office as a fellow and helped with developing policy memos, legislation, and collaborating with government agencies and decision-makers focusing on sustainability and environmental challenges of island communities.

“Energy is not just what runs our refrigerators: it involves transportation, and communication. New technology for clean energy is evolving exponentially almost daily,” added Leon Guerrero. “I see Guam as a test bed of renewable energy. There are so many different types of opportunities that the island can get to bring more technology here and build capacity.”

Since completing her fellowship term, Leon Guerrero has settled in and is a permanent member of the Guam Energy Office team where she continues to give Guam the energy boost we need to keep growing. She has chaired several projects that has brought significant impacts for Guam.

This is the kind of energy a lot of people on Guam have noted the need for.  Not energy that will get a car moving, or help you stream your favorite shows, or even keep you cool with air conditioning on a hot Guam day, not directly anyway.  The energy of our youth and future leaders of the island taking the time to hone their skills, develop their expertise and bring solutions for our people – that’s the energy many say we need.

While Leon Guerrero may be working in the energy field and making great moves for the Guam Energy Office, on a whole other level, she is inspiring the community and the generation that will inherit these challenges, but more so, bring the solutions to overcome them.
